Two of the biggest multi-starrers are set to clash in Tollywood this month. The Telugu version of Mani Ratnam’s Tamil flick Chekka Chivantha Vaanam, titled Nawab, was originally slated for release on September 28 but the filmmakers have decided to advance its release date by a day. Therefore, both the versions of the film will come out on September 27 despite the fact that the promos for Nawab are yet to begin.

It also means that this Mani Ratnam directorial will clash with another Telugu multi-starrer, Devadas. Devadas is a Sriram Adittya directorial and is presented by C Dharma Raju and bankrolled by Ashwini Dutt under his banner Vyjayanthi Movies. This is the first time that two of the finest actors from the Telugu film industry, Nagarjuna and Nani, are getting an opportunity to share screen space, which is a big reason for fans to wait for its release. The film has Rashmika Mandanna and Aakanksha Singh playing the women leads with the former pairing up with Nani and the latter with Nagarjuna. Mani Sharma has composed the music for this flick with Shamdat Sainudeen cranking the camera.

On the other hand, Nawab is also a multi-starrer that has four heroes – Vijay Sethupathi, Simbu, Arvind Swami and Arun Vijay – sharing screen space. Written by Mani Ratnam and Shiva Ananth, Chekka Chivantha Vaanam has been directed by the former. Besides the four heroes, the film has a bevy of stars in the cast including Jyothika, Aditi Rao Hydari, Aishwarya Rajesh and Dayana Erappa. The film is produced jointly by Mani Ratnam and Subashkaran under their banners Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions respectively. Oscar winning music director AR Rahman has composed the tunes for this action thriller while Santosh Sivan has cranked the camera and A Sreekar Prasad is the editor.

September 27 will be a big day in Tollywood, for sure!
