A very influential man, Sen Gupta joined journalism in 1982 after a short stint as a teacher

Arinndam Sen Gupta, the managing editor of The Times of India, passed away early on Thursday after a "brief but brave battle against cancer."

A very influential man, Sen Gupta joined journalism in 1982 after a short stint as a teacher. He was with the Bennett Coleman and Co. group continuously from 1991 after a previous spell from 1988 to 1990.

The Times of India reported:

During a productive and memorable career, Sen Gupta wrote on, and keenly followed, a range of issues from national politics and international affairs to popular films and music. With a warm and friendly disposition, Sen Gupta was a much loved figure in TOI, where his colleagues looked up to him for guidance and inspiration. His infectious good nature will be deeply missed. His colleagues will remember his approachability and the sound advice he always had to offer.

Many people, including journalists, politicians and ministers, have offered their condolences.
