The News Minute | October 3, 2014 | 3.22 pm IST|  Students of a government tribal school in Palakkad district went on hunger strike following a comment the school manager allegedly made taunting the children, claiming they were coming to school only to eat and not study.  Students of class eleven and twelve of the Ashram Government Higher Secondary School, in Malampuzha sat on a hunger strike for almost 12 hours protesting against the comment that the manager had made, reported the Malayalam news channel Reporter TV. The strike ended only when the District Collector K. Ramachandran visited the school and assured the students that nothing of this sort would happen in future. He said that if such an incident is repeated action will be taken under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The school manager, however, said that he had only asked that students to study. ‘If grades reduce the government questions us. They do not study when they are asked to and I had asked them to study and nothing else,’ he said.
