In a shocking incident, a 45-year-old woman from Vithura in Thiruvananthapuram has alleged that she was raped by her son.

Prasanth, 25, a woodcutter, was arrested based on a complaint filed by his mother.

The woman alleged in her complaint that Prasanth raped her for the first time on March 24 when her husband, the accused’s father, was away at work and she was alone at home.

Police said that he gagged her mouth while committing the crime.

The complaint also says that though the woman had resisted the son’s advances, he assaulted her till she surrendered.

Police said that the woman decided to file a complaint when Prasanth made another attempt last Wednesday.

Prasanth, who is married and has a three-year-old child, was abandoned by his wife due to his alcohol addiction.

Since the March 24 incident, the woman was in trauma and was keeping away from her son.

She was scared and ashamed to complain to the police initially.

When the second attempt happened, she shouted and her mother who was living nearby rushed to her. The woman’s mother then convinced her to give a complaint to the police, The Times of India reports.

Following the complaint, the man was arrested from his workplace.

In the first week of April this year, a man in Ludhiana had reportedly raped his 70-year-old mother. Police had said that he was under the influence of intoxicant.

In another incident in 2014 at Kottayam, a 25-year-old man was arrested for repeatedly raping his own mother.
