The trailer of the upcoming Malayalam film 9 was released on 15 satellite channels simultaneously and it garnered massive attention from the film buffs as anticipated. The strategy has paid off well for the filmmakers, as the trailer has received a whopping 7 million views within 24 hours of its launch. This includes 5.5 million+ views on TV and 1.5 million views on digital.

Speaking about it to Manorama Online, Shony Panjikaran, the marketing head of Sony Pictures India said, “Despite Kerala being a top digital market, we realised that the trailers on online platforms are not getting a great reach. In Bollywood, Tamil and Telugu industries, the numbers are really huge. We felt that quite a number of our audiences are not coming on digital platforms and there is a much wider audience which we can capture with television in this state. With the TV roadblock done away with, we were able to reach out to more than 20 per cent of the entire population of Kerala at one go. The results are outstanding and the numbers are the first of the kind in Malayalam. A film of this scale really deserves to be seen by many more people and we are glad we could showcase the trailer to such a large section of the audience.”

Directed by Jenuse Mohammad, 9 stars Prithviraj Sukumaran, Prakash Raj, Wamiqa Gabbi, and Mamta Mohandas in the lead roles. Its technical crew includes Shaan Rahman for composing music for the songs, while Sekhar Menon will be doing the music composition for background score. Abinandhan Ramanujam is cranking the camera for this venture and Shameer Muhammed is the editor.

9 is being bankrolled by Prithviraj’s wife Supriya Menon under the banner SPE Films India. It will be distributed by Sony Pictures, which will mark the production and distribution house’s entry into the Malayalam film industry.
