Malayalam actor Tovino Thomas will be making his debut in the Tamil film industry with Abi & Anu, a bilingual made in Tamil and Malayalam simultaneously. Directed by veteran cinematographer and director BR Vijayalakshmi, the film will have Tovino Thomas playing the lead role in both the languages. Recently, Tovino released the first look of the film on his Facebook page and also confirmed that the movie would hit the marquee on September 22nd, this year.

While Pia Bajpai will be pairing up with Tovino Thomas in Abi & Anu, the star cast also includes veteran actors such as Prabhu, Suhasini and Rohini.

On the release of the poster, BR Vijayalakshmi is reported to have said, “Abi & Anu explores a very unexpected twist in a romantic story. Even while this Tamil/Malayalam project is based on a true story, no-one was willing to back such a film. Yoodlee is truly fearless when it comes to picking their subjects, and this is the result of that approach.”

Yoodlee Films is a new motion picture studio from the house of Saregama (HMV).

BR Vijayalakshmi is the daughter of the veteran director and producer BR Panthulu. She had wielded the camera for films such as Chinna Veedu, Therkathi Kallan, En Purushanthaan Enakku Mattumthaan, Mallu Vetti Minor and Thalattu Ketkuthamma.

She has also written and directed Paattu Padava in 1995. Further, during her stint in the television industry, she has directed serials such as Velan and Maya Machindra that were telecast in Sun TV and Vijay TV respectively. BR Vijayalakshmi is back to wield the megaphone for a movie after a gap of two decades.

On the other hand, Tovino has a number of films in his kitty that are in various stages of production including Tharangam, Tick Tock, Oru Bayangara Kamukan, Hanu 3D and Chengazhi Nambiar.
