One of the hottest stars in the Malayalam film industry, Tovino Thomas has a long line-up of films for release this year. Among them is Maradona, which, reports say, is well into the post-production mode and will be out in theatres next month.
While its makers have planned it as a summer release, its release date is being worked out and will be announced in a few days, we hear. The first look poster of the film, which was published online, disclosed the release month.
Directed by Vishnu Narayan, Maradona is bankrolled by S Vinod Kumar under the banner Mini Studios. The film’s story and screenplay have been penned by Krishna Moorthy. While Tovino plays the character Maradona in the film, the others in the star cast include Chemban Vinod Jose, Leona Lishoy, Tito Wilson, Kichu Tellus and Jins Baskar. Sushin Shyam is the music director of this flick with Deepak D Menon handling the camera and Saiju Sreedharan being its editor.
While the title gave rise to speculations that it may be a sports drama centred around football, apparently it is not so. Touted to be an action-packed romantic drama, the film is all about a youngster, played by Tovino, who raises his voice for his people. The shooting for this film began in August last year and was shot in various locations, including Chavakkadu, Bangalore, Vandiperiyaar, Aluva and Ernakulam.
On working in the film, Tovino Thomas had told Indian Express last year, “Vishnu has a vast experience in this industry. I listened to the script while doing Godha and instantly said yes to the project.”
Bankrolled by Tamil actor Dhanush’s banner Wunderbar Films, the film marks Dhanush’s second production in Malayalam after Tovino’s yet-to-release movie titled Tharangam, which is directed by Arun Dominic.
