Maari, one of the biggest hits in Dhanush’s career, was released in the year 2015. Ever since then, there has been a lot of expectations on its sequel, in which he returns as a dhoti-clad, moustache-twirling rowdy. The shooting of Maari 2 commenced last month and is progressing at a breakneck speed. The film’s release is slated to be later this year.
While the prequel had Kajal Aggarwal as the female lead, in the sequel it will be Sai Pallavi and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar sharing screen space with the actor. Reports indicate that Varalaxmi may be seen in a negative role in the film. Yuvan Shankar Raja is composing the music for the film with Om Prakash cranking the camera. GK Prasanna is in charge of editing with Silva choreographing the stunts. Maari 2 is being bankrolled by Dhanush’s home production Wunderbar Films.
Dhanush is one of the busiest stars in the Tamil film industry with a number of films in various stages of production needing his attention. His last film release was another sequel Velaiilla Pattadhari 2, which was directed by Soundarya Rajinikanth.
Dhanush has the Gautham Menon directorial Enai Nokki Paayum Thotta and Vada Chennai with director Vettrimaran lined up for release this year. Also, he is busy with his debut Hollywood movie The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir, which is being directed by Ken Scott. This film will be released in French as well.
