1. Just a day ahead of his appearance before CBI following summons, former Union minister Dayanidhi Maran got anticipatory bail from the Madras High Court. Though bail has been granted, the judge has said that it could be cancelled depending on Maran’s cooperation in the BSNL telephone exchange case. 2. TN CM Jayalalithaa swept the RK Nagar constituency by-election in Chennai with a huge margin of over 1.50 lakh votes. While CPI’s C Mahendran came second, Jayalalithaa maintained with a comfortable lead throughout the counting on Tuesday. Calling the by-election a precursor to the 2016 election, she thanked the people and promised to fulfill their expectations. 3. Over a year after the Moulivakkam building collapse, the Madras High Court has warned the TN government over its delay in tabling the one-man commission report to the Legislative Assembly. A warning that the investigation would be handed to the CBI was issued. 4. The TN government has delayed an agreement with the Adani group over plans to set up a 648MW solar power plant in Ramanathapuram district. Though the deal was to be signed on Tuesday evening, there was no explanation for the last minute cancellation. 5. Four workers died on Tuesday following an explosion at a firecracker manufacturing unit in the Kallapadi village, Gudiyattam. Seven others have been injured in the accident which has completely destroyed the factory building.
