1. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday visited the families of deceased farmers and offered them solace. Accompanied by other ministers, the chief minister handed over compensation to the kin of the deceased farmer. Holding private money lenders responsible for most of the suicides in the state, he said stern action would be initiated against them. 2. Few members of the Congress party demanded the resignation of Upalokayuta Subash B Adi for allegedly covering up a case. Upalokayukta Justice SB Majage who retired last week accused Justice Adi of encroaching upon his jurisdiction and handling cases. He alleged that Justice Adi had shielded Dr. Sheela Patil who has accused of siphoning off medicines from government hospital and directing it to a private hospital owned by her husband. 3. According to the latest report released by National Crime Records Bureau, the number of suicides in the country has increased 15.8 per cent in 2014 in comparison to 2013. Karnataka is placed at fourth in the category of states with the highest number of suicides, while Bengaluru is positioned at a scary second under the cities reporting the highest number of suicide category. 4. Congress party Vice- President Rahul Gandhi will be visiting Bengaluru on July 23 to acquaint himself with the ground situation regarding farmer suicides in the state. The chief minister visited the families of the deceased farmers and pressure is mounting on Gandhi to visit the areas where farmers suicides have been reported to be the highest. 5. Only 20 MLAs in Karnataka have given up subsidized LPG cylinders under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's pet project 'Give It Up' campaign. Of the 20, 10 are from Congress, seven from BJP and three from JD(S). Four MPs from the state too have given up subsidized LPG cylinders. Karnataka stands third among the states who have adopted this campaign, after Uttar Pradesh (1st) and Delhi (2nd)
