 1. The BJP has now come out with its own list of farmers’ suicides in the state, and has claimed that the government’s figures are lower than the actual number. These figures come in the wake of the party’s visits to 21 districts where suicides had been reported. Even as this went on, five more farmers have committed suicide in the state. 2. Farmers’groups are demanding that the government declared  half the districts in the state as drought-affected. The Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha has said that in 15 districts farmers have not been able to undertake sowing due to poor rains and that there is shortage of fodder for animals. Drinking water shortage too is being reported from some areas.3. Karnataka’s ministers have claimed around Rs 7.89 crore in travel allowances, information sought under the RTI Act shows. The highest travel allowance claimed has been by Urban Development Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah stands fourth on travel expenses. 4. The state government has said that the name of Justice K L Manjunath has not been rejected by the Governor. Even as the Lokayukta controversy rages, the government is trying to find and fill the post of Upalokayukta which fell vacant after the retirement of Justice S B Majage on July 17.5. A woman in Hassan has died, allegedly after drinking contaminated water in Hassan district. This is the second such death that has been reported from the village in the last week. Investigation continues.
