The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Andhra Pradesh on Monday began probe into the alleged phone-tapping by the Telangana government by summoning phone service providers. The team gathered information from telecom service providers at Bhavanipuram police station in Vijayawada. A flood threat loomed over parts of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh as heavy rains continued to lash the two Telugu states for a third consecutive day on Monday. Dozens of villages in both the states were cut off in Khammam district of Telangana and East Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh as the Godavari river and its tributaries remained in spate. In a first, the AP government has decided to take up a full-fledged survey of river Krishna along the proposed capital city Amaravati to study the hydrological and hydraulic aspects of the soil. The Nagarjuna Sagar Tail Pond project near Satrasala in Guntur district which was completed this February is now ready to generate power. Two units which can generate 25 MW of power each have been installed. The Satrasala, 24 km from Nagarjuna Sagar dam, was allotted to Telangana during bifurcation while AP got rights over the tail pond. Fifty-six passengers, many from Tamil Nadu, have been booked under the Customs Act after they were caught allegedly smuggling 63 kilos of gold in an assortment of electronic items in the Visakhapatnam airport. Those questioned landed on three different flights from Kuala Lumpur and Singapore between last night and this morning.
