Calculated based on number of weekends and public holidays, government employees can avail themselves of 164 days leave next year. In addition, 240 days of medical leave can be awarded to them for proper medical reasons, reported The Times of India. Teachers working in government schools and colleges, apart from regular leaves are also entitled to long summer vacations along with religious holidays. Government employees get 12 days casual leave, 30 days earned leave, and 18 days of public holidays apart from the regular weekends off, said the report. Compare this to private companies that provide only 7 to 9 holidays in a year apart from about 30 to 36 days of other leaves. However, not all employees enjoy an easy time, considering departments like the police, hospital , electricity and other essential services. These departments work all through the year, said the report.
