Tamil Nadu assembly deputy speaker’s son on Tuesday rammed his car into another vehicle in Tirupur, which led to the death of one of the co-occupants and injured four others who were present in his car.

J Pravin, (19), the son of Tamil Nadu assembly deputy speaker Pollachi V Jayaraman, has been charged under three sections of IPC which include causing death by negligence (IPC 304 A), causing hurt by an act of endangering life (IPC 337) and rash driving, according to The Times of India.

The accident occurred when the car reached Oothiyur near Perumanallur in Tirupur district. Police said that he lost control of the car. A police officer told The Times of India, “The car was travelling at such a high speed that it hit the median, jumped over it and rammed into a car coming in the opposite direction.

Police claim that Pravin was driving the car at a speed of 120 kmph. Pravin and his friends were on their way to Erode to meet another friend.

The deceased, 18-year-old Surekha lived in Saibaba colony in Coimbatore and was Pravin’s classmate. Police told TOI that the girl was thrown out of the car into the centre median due to the impact of the collision and died. When police reached the spot, her body was hanging out of the car.

Pravin, who is a first-year fashion technology student, also sustained severe injuries.

Surekha’s body was taken to Tirupur government hospital while the rest of them were taken to a private hospital.
