A scuffle broke out between the Dravida Kazhagam(DK) and Shiv Sena party workers here today in Chennai. The scuffle started because of the DK organizing a thaali removal program as a sign of protest over the cancellation of telecast of a programme on a Tamil news TV channel last month titled "Thaali  (Mangalsutra) a boon or bane" following protest from Hindu Munnani, a Sangh Parivar outfit. Police intervention helped break the scuffle, but it left five people grievously injured, in the hospital. The police also found bombs and weapons in possession of the Shiv Sena party workers, according to a report by Sun TV. The police ban on the DK programme comes in the backdrop of opposition from several quarters, including Shiv Sena and Hindu Makkal Katchi, which contended that it was against Tamil culture. A petition was also filed in Madras High Court. Meanwhile, protests were held by Hindu outfits against the thaali snapping programme organised by DK with some activists burning pictures of DK president K Veeramani.
