Telugu TV actor Jhansi's suicide: Hyderabad police take boyfriend into custody

The actor was found in her flat in an apartment complex in Sri Nagar colony in the city on February 6.

Less than a week after Telugu television actor Naga Jhansi killed herself at her house in Hyderabad, the police said that they had taken the 21-year-old woman's boyfriend, Surya Teja, into custody for questioning. The actor was found in her flat in an apartment complex in Sri Nagar colony in the city on February 6.

Surya had reportedly been absconding for a few days after the incident and the actor's family had alleged that he was responsible for her death. The Punjagutta police which is investigating the case said that no suicide note was found but they had gone through the actor's WhatsApp conversations and a diary, which gave them further leads.

Jhansi's mother, Annapurana had earlier claimed that Surya had asked her daughter to stop acting and promised to marry her but later went back on his word.

“Surya Teja has not placed under arrest. The investigation is underway to find the facts, of what exactly happened between him and Jhansi,” Punjagutta inspector B Mohan Kumar was quoted as saying.

Hailing from Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh, Jhansi acted in different serials including Pavitra Bandhan on MAA TV. She had gained popularity in a short period of time because of the show. She was running a beauty parlour in Ameerpet area for the last few months.

According to the police, the actor was alone in the flat at the time of the incident. Her brother Durga Prasad alerted the neighbours when she did not respond to repeated knocks on the door. They broke open the door and found her dead. Her body was shifted to government-run Gandhi Hospital for an autopsy. Following this, the police registered a case and examined Jhansi's call data and chat records to ascertain more details.
