Dhanush-Vetrimaaran films have always had a successful run at the box-office. The combo's recent release Asuran which hit the screens last month has joined the Rs 100 crore club and has emerged as a blockbuster hit.

It was recently announced that the film will be remade in Telugu with actor Venkatesh reprising Dhanush's role from the original. However, it was not clear who would helm the remake. Sources in the tinsel town hinted that the makers are planning to rope in Hanu Raghavapudi to direct the remake and discussions are in progress. The remake will be bankrolled by Suresh Babu and the original producer Kalaipuli S Thanu under Suresh Productions and V Creations, respectively.

However, now it has been confirmed that director Srikanth Addala, who is known for films like Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu and Brahmotsavam will be directing Venkatesh in the Telugu remake. The rest of the cast and crew are yet to be officially announced, but and the latest buzz is that actress Shriya Saran is likely to reprise Manju Warrier’s role.

Asuran, a revenge drama that traces the fight of an oppressed community against those oppressing them is based on Tamil novel Vekkai written by Poomani.

Meanwhile, Venkatesh awaits the release of his upcoming film Venky Mama, which also stars his nephew Akkineni Naga Chaitanya. The film is bankrolled jointly by Suresh Productions and Blue Planet Entertainment on a very big budget with Bobby aka KS Ravindra wielding the megaphone.  Sources in the know say that the film may be out at the theatres on December 13 to coincide with Venkatesh’s birthday. The work is in full throttle to meet the deadline and an official confirmation is awaited.
