Arka Media Works, makers of the magnum opus Baahubali series, recently had filed a case against SN Rajarajan of K Production, who had distributed the Tamil version of the movies in Tamil Nadu, for the unpaid dues he owed to the production house. K Productions bought the theatrical rights for Baahubali for Rs 28 crore and paid Rs 12.5 crore and for the remaining amount, he went ahead with a loan agreement with Shobu Yarlagadda which he failed to repay.
On Wednesday, the Vacation Bench of Telangana High Court bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Raghvendra Singh Chauhan and Justice Shameem Akther had issued an order stalling the release of Dhanush starrer Ennai Nokki Paayum Thotta, which is co-produced by Madhan (proprietor of Escape Artists Motion Pictures), and Vijay Sethupathi starrer Sindhubaadh, produced by Rajarajan, until all dues are paid.
Pugitha G, the advocate for Arka Media Works, told entertainment portal Silverscreen, “The matter has been posted after four weeks, which is the first week of June after the court reopens. The movies cannot release pending the adjudication of the matter by the High Court.”
According to the court order, K Productions has to pay a remaining sum of Rs 17.6 crore to Arka Media to lift the ban on release of the movies.
Ennai Nokki Paayum Thotta, directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon, went into production in 2016 and was initially slated for release during the 2017 Valentine’s Day and later during Diwali in 2018. After a long delay, the film was censored recently and is getting ready for release. The film has Megha Akash as the heroine with Sunaina and Sasikumar in pivotal roles while Rana Daggubati will be making a cameo appearance.
Sindhubaadh, with Vijay Sethupathi in the lead role, is directed by Pannaiyarum Padminiyum and Sethupathi director Arun Kumar and produced by SN Rajarajan and Shan Sutharsan under the production banners Vansan Movies and K Productions. The film has Anjali playing the female lead and has Vivek Prasanna and Linga playing important roles and music by Yuvan Shankar Raja.
