In an incident that reflected bipartisanship, an elderly couple in Telangana received help after the state Congress chief Uttam Kumar Reddy brought their problem to the notice of state Municipal Minister KT Rama Rao.
“This aged couple living in a hut from Komaram Bheem Asifabad District has been asked to cough up Rs 500 property tax. Local officials’ apathy is sickening. Appeal to Telangana Chief Minister and KTR to refund the tax paid and rehabilitate the couple in a double bedroom house immediately,” Uttam Kumar tweeted on Tuesday.

Within a few hours, KT Rama Rao, who is also the son of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, said in response, “Thanks Uttam Kumar Reddy Garu for bringing it to my notice.”
“Request the District Collector to direct local panchayat secretary to rectify this mistake and also provide them with 2BHK and Aasara pension if they aren’t already receiving it,” he tweeted.

Following this, the Collector replied saying, “Panchayat secretary has refunded complete property tax four days ago when the issue came to my notice. Asara pension is being sanctioned and family will be allotted a 2BHK house on grounding of the scheme.”
Thanking the Collector for his swift response, KTR tagged Uttam Kumar on the update.
“Thank you for the quick response. I’m glad that the Collector is acting in a timely manner and the aggrieved old aged couple can now lead a comfortable and happy life. I hope and pray such mistakes do not happen in the future,” the Telangana Congress chief responded.
This bonhomie did not go unnoticed among Twitter users, who were all praise for the two politicians.
“This is wonderful! This is how political discourse should be between opponents.. Very dignified.. Hope other politicians learn from you both,” one user tweeted.
“This is what is expected by people from politicians. Irrespective of your political differences, you have to work together to improve people’s lives... Really appreciate you both from the bottom of my heart,” another user added.
“That’s the way Leader of Opposition and governments are supposed to work in democracy. Kudos to both,” one user said.
