A 15-year-old boy from Agra set himself on fire on Sunday after he was harassed for a "gay act", The Times of India reported. The incident, which took place at the at Madia Katra locality, was sparked off after a neighbour saw the boy getting intimate with a male friend and teased him. 

The Class IX student then doused himself with diesel that he had stolen from a car and set himself afire. He has been admitted to a private hospital with 40% burn injuries, including severe ones on his legs and chest. 

According to the TOI report, "Residents rushed out of their houses when they heard the boy screaming as he ran out of his room engulfed in flames. Neighbours and family members of the victim quickly poured water on him, wrapped him up in a blanket and took him to hospital."

The boy is said to be a bright student who earned a distinction in his class X examination and wants to become an engineer. 

"He is unable to speak properly . The doctors say he is out of danger but I will only believe it when my son will talk to me," the teenager's father, who runs a shoe manufacturing business in the city, told TOI. 

Talking about the incident, the father told the newspaper that a few people from their locality had seen his son getting intimate with a male friend in a nearby park

"The news spread and a some people started teasing and harassing him. Upset, he locked himself in the room for two days. He suddenly ran outside the house on Sunday afternoon and set himself afire by pouring diesel on himself," he said.
