The teaser for Karthi’s upcoming film with Rakul Preet titled Dev was released on Monday. Directed by debut filmmaker Rajath Ravishankar, the teaser begins with Karthi’s voice-over laying out two different lives that one can lead – either playing by the rules and leading a conventional life, or breaking free.
Sporting a beard and riding bikes and trekking up a snowy mountain, the teaser suggests that Karthi’s character, Dev, will explore a life of adventure. The film appears to have plenty of stunts on offer, including fight sequences. The actor sports a stylish, well-groomed look for the film.
This is Karthi’s second film with Rakul, the first being the superhit Theeran Adhigaram Ondru directed by H Vinoth. Karthi had played a police officer in search of a gang of bandits in the film while Rakul played his wife. He followed up Theeran with another hit, Kadaikutty Singam. The two hits put the actor back on his feet after the debacle of Mani Ratnam’s Kaatru Veliyidai which sank at the box office although it had opened to great expectations.
Produced by Prince Pictures, Dev has music by Harris Jayaraj. The cast includes Prakash Raj and Ramya Krishnan. The film will also release in Telugu with the same title.
Rakul is a very popular actor in the Telugu film industry and she has done a handful of films in Tamil, including the Murugadoss bilingual Spyder, in which she acted with Mahesh Babu. She’s also part of the cast in Suriya’s NGK, directed by Selvaraghavan.
The release date for Dev is yet to be announced.
