After Telugu Desam Party (TDP) stepped up its attack on Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao, he retaliated stating that the Chandrababu Naidu-led party had no right to contest in the Telangana elections. Terming TDP as ‘Telangana betrayers’, Harish Rao shot an open letter to TDP president and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Monday, listing out 19-points on why his party had no moral right to contest in Telangana.

Nephew of the state’s caretaker CM K Chandrasekhar Rao, Harish Rao claimed that the people of Telangana are against the TDP because they were anti-Telangana. “You are a pakka Telangana betrayer, who dislikes the term ‘Telangana’ and didn’t tolerate the Telangana movement.  When BJP was in Centre using your influence, you stopped the formation of Telangana,” said Telangana Rashtra Samithi’s Harish Rao.

In his letter, Harish Rao alleged that Chandrababu Naidu and TDP had hindered the development of the state and also claimed that Naidu went back on his promises, such as adopting the Palamuru village. “Why do you want to fight in Telangana elections when you conspired against the formation of Telangana?” Rao wrote.

Though the Mahakutami — grand alliance of Congress-TDP-TJS-CPI — has not announced the candidates or the seat-sharing, Rao speculated that the TDP will contest from four constituencies. He alleged that the reason why Chandrababu wants TDP to contest from four constituencies and win is to sacrifice Telangana and save the interest of Andhra Pradesh.

The Irrigation Minister also alleged that the TDP had prevented them from taking up works of several water projects. He said that despite so much betrayal of Telangana, the TDP expressed no remorse or accepted their mistakes so far.

Harish Rao, who is also the trusted aide of KCR, has taken the responsibility to campaign in the CM’s Gajwel constituency. However, the TDP and Congress leaders have been ensuring that the campaign is not an easy one. Congress leader Vanteru Pratap Reddy and TDP Politburo member Revuri Prakash have been alleging that Harish Rao has been conspiring to bring down the KCR, as the latter wants him to act as second fiddle to TRS party president KCR’s son, K Tarakarama Rao (KTR).

However, Harish Rao not only denied these allegations but further threatened to cut off Prakash’s tongue for making such statements.
