Top directors from Kollywood joined hands in celebrating director Shankar's 25 years in the industry. The get-together was hosted by Mysskin and was attended by several top directors such as Maniratnam, Gautham Menon, Pa Ranjith, Jayam Raja, Sasi, Ezhil, Pandiraj, Lingusamy, Atlee, Balaji Sakthivel and Vasantha Balan.

The surprise party saw all directors wearing a blue T-Shirt with the caption 'S 25' on it.

Director Shankar is recognised for delivering expensive, high-end CGI in most of his films. He made his directorial debut with Gentleman in 1993 which was produced by KT Kunjumon. The film starred Arjun in the lead and was about a angry young vigilante who operates to provide free education to the masses.

Then followed by Kadhalan with Prabhu Deva, Indian with Kamal Hassan, Jeans with Prashanth and Aishwarya Rai and Mudhalvan with Arjun, all of which were blockbusters.

Most of Shankar's stories had vigilantes angry with the way society was functioning and the film came with a moral message towards the end. He erected extravagent sets and lavished upon song sequences which became his trademark style.

When he made Anniyan in 2005, it became the costliest film to have been made in India at that time. He broke his own record with Sivaji in 2007 and later with Enthiran in 2010. His recent release was 2.0 the second installment in the Enthiran franchise.

Shankar is currently on the verge of commencing the shooting of Indian 2, sequel of his blockbuster Indian, which released in the year 1996. Starring  Kamal Haasan, Manisha Koirala and Urmila Matondkar in the lead roles, the film portrayed Kamal Hassan as an angry old freedom-fighter who tried to eradicate corruption from the society.

Having teased fans with the first poster from the film in January this year on the occasion of Pongal, it was revealed that the team would begin shooting soon.

But due to undisclosed reason the film's shooting came to a halt in just a few days. and it is being said that shooting will resume by the end of May or early June this year.
