Well-known character artiste and comedian Kovai Senthil, known for his roles in Tamil films like Padayappa, En Rathathin Rathame, Avasara Police 100, etc passed away in Coimbatore on Sunday. Due to deteriorating health, the actor was admitted at a private hospital in Vadavalli, Coimbatore where he breathed his last. He was 74.

Kovai Senthil has appeared in supporting roles in many Tamil films. The actor was seen in CS Amudhan’s 2010 spoof film Tamizh Padam, playing the role of Nattamai (village head).

The director shared his memory of the scene on Twitter writing that Kovai Senthil had completed the shot in one take.

He had made his debut in Bhagyaraj’s Oru Kai Osai (1980) and went on to appear in a number of other films including Idhu Namma Aalu (1988), Chinna Kuyil Paduthu (1987), Kanna Thorakanum Saami (1986), etc. He also made a very brief appearance in a court scene in Kamal Haasan’s Avvai Shanmugi (1996) and in Venkat Prabhu’s 2010 comedy drama Goa. 

Several people took to Twitter to mourn his demise.

Actor Rocket Ramanathan known for his roles in films like Mansoru, Koil Yaanai, and Valartha Keda, passed away in Chennai on September 4. He was 74. A relative of director RC Sakthi, Ramanathan had acted alongside Kamal Haasan and Vijayakanth in the film Manakanakku (1986).

On September 5, veteran Tamil comedian and character artist Vellai Subbiah known for his roles in films like Alaigal Oivadhillai, Vaidhegi Kaathirundhal, and Karagattakaran passed away following a brief illness in Mettupalayam, Coimbatore.

Subbiah has appeared in over 250 films acting alongside popular stars including MG Ramachandran, Sivaji Ganesan, Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Vijay and Ajith. He was 78 and is survived by wife and daughter. He was recently awarded the state government's prestigious 'Kalai Mudumani’.
