Hyderabad-based startup engine T-Hub, in association with Rural Electrification Corporation, has announced the launch of ‘REC Innovation Platform’. This platform with will extend support and mentoring to 30 government institutions across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. About 1,800 students from select government institutions will go through the rigorous Conceptual Research Experience Program.
These students will be mentored on the finer points of research and innovation in the field of renewable energy. Researchers will be assigned to mentor teams of students towards building innovations in renewable energy ranging from solar energy and wind energy to geothermal energy and alternative bio fuels, and more.
The program is a joint initiative of T-Hub along with The Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) through its REC Foundation initiative.
"Climate change is a serious problem that can be addressed through innovative, technology-driven solutions. The best out-of-the-box thinkers are the ones that have technical acumen and are shackle- free in creative thinking. As a catalyst change and ecosystem enabler, driving innovation through the pillars of engineering institutions is the best form of bringing about change," said Jay Krishnan, CEO of T-Hub.
The platform will help 1800 young college innovators to produce 600 projects focused on renewable energy. Out of these, 30 projects will be selected for advanced mentoring. Finally, top 3 projects will be selected for further mentoring at T-Hub.
The main goal of this program is to enhance the thinking ability of the students, propagate research and innovations in renewable energy and contribute to the society through implementation of solutions and enable academia & industry collaborations.
“The Young generation should be equipped with skill sets that are identifiable and which will allow them to implement their learning innovatively to overcome real life challenges. One of today’s challenges is energy, how to ensure a constant supply without impacting the environment. The answer lies in renewable energy, it is cleaner, available in abundance and has much lower impact on the environment. However, innovation is still needed to ensure that it becomes the largest contributor to the energy needs of the world. The REC Innovation Platform aims to empower student innovators in the field of renewable energy.
