Mollywood appears to have been bitten by a new bug! We are talking about fresh star casts that have been ruling the box office recently.

One filmmaker who seems to have discarded the ‘big names means big bucks’ formula in favour of casting newcomers as leads is Sugeeth. The director of flicks such as Ordinary and Shikkari Shambhu has exclusively cast fresh faces in lead roles in his upcoming film Kinavalli.

In the recently released character intro teaser for Kinavalli, we get to see six new faces. Ajmal Zayn, who plays Vivek, was a model and Sowmya, who is essaying the role of Swathy, has acted in commercials before signing the movie.

Vijay Johny, who plays Sudheesh, gained attention on social media when his ‘Charlie dubsmash’ video went viral. He said that Sugeeth first noticed him after seeing his pictures on Facebook but the decision to feature him in the movie was finalised after seeing the dubsmash video.

Sujith Raj, who will be seen playing Gopan, is working on a song called Raveguru with the music composer of the film, Mangal Suvarnan, apart from acting in the movie.

Krrish, who will feature as Ajith, made his acting debut in the Tamil movie Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada directed by Gautham Menon. This will be his first movie in a lead role.

Surabhi, who plays Ann, made her debut in S Narayan’s Kannada movie Dushta. After that she was seen in Jatayu (Kannada), Aayirathil Iruvar (Tamil), Kuttanadan Marpappa (Malayalam) and Second Half (Kannada). She is trained in classical dance and has also modelled for a few ads.

Kinavalli, which will hit theatres on July 27, will be released in Tamil and Malayalam. While the film is bankrolled by Manesh Thomas of Kannamthanam Films, the script is written by Syam Seethal and Vishnu Ramachandran.

Talking about the movie, Syam had said, “The film is about friendship, love, fantasy, and also has a little bit of horror thrown in. Sugeeth has been particular since his first film that the title or the tagline be related to the story and the tagline of this film – ‘Based on a fake story’ – too has relevance to the film.”
