The Kannada multi-starrer The Villain released to packed houses on October 18 as a Dussehra release and broke box office records right in its first week. Reports say the movie collected Rs 20 crore on day one at the box office and made Rs 60 crore during the first weekend. However, one of the heroes of the film, Kiccha Sudeep, seems to be unhappy with the team over the promos.

Recently, one of his fans had tweeted a photo of the film’s ads published in a Marathi paper and said that he was happy to see them. But it was Sudeep’s tweet in reply that has shocked the film industry and movie buffs. The star tweeted: “Happy to see ads there, where r th ads in our papers!!! Guess all the concerned have gone into th relax mode, post 1st week… Jus incase someone happen to meet my Villain team, pls pass on a msg that I’m trying to get in touch wth them (sic).” The tweet seems to indicate that Sudeep isn’t happy with the team over the promos for the film.

Directed by Prem, The Villain has Shiva Rajkumar and Kiccha Sudeep sharing screen space for the first time. With two of the top stars in Sandalwood teaming up for the film, it was expected that it would take such a grand opening. While Amy Jackson made her debut in the Kannada film industry with this film, others in the star cast include Srikanth, Mithun Chakraborty and Sruthi Hariharan. Arjun Janya has composed tunes for this flick while Girish R Gowda has cranked the camera.

The Villain has been bankrolled by CR Manohar under his banner Tanvi – Shanvi Films on a budget of Rs 45 crore. According to reports, the producer managed to recover more than half the budget through the pre-release business. With the collections breaking records, this multi-starrer is headed towards breaking quite a few other records in the Kannada film industry.
