Two college students were arrested and later released for stealing a pug from a house in Ambattur in Chennai and putting it up for sale on OLX website.

On the website, the pug was being sold for less than half the market price of the dog. There were two ads, one for Rs. 8500 and the other for Rs. 9000. The couple posed as buyers and called the students and fixed a meeting.

The couple had also filed a complaint with the Ambattur police. The couple’s son-in-law checked the OLX website and found matching descriptions of their dog.

The dog was usually kept indoors but as the couple’s daughter had come with her new born baby the pug was kept outside house with an expensive carrier. On Sunday night, two students jumped the compound wall and stole the pug. The CCTV camera footage had captured their movement.

“When our son-in-law called them up, they were telling it is well-trained and vaccinated”, the dog’s owner told The New Indian Express. After the family met the students, they realized it is their dog as the dog collar was also not changed.

A police officer old TNIE, “The two students confessed that they had stolen the pug and broke down infront of the police. “The family withdrew the complaint against the boys, considering their future.”

He added, “Even the boy’s families are not aware of the incident.”

The couple said that they are happy to get back their pug and did not want the boys to be punished but want proper police patrolling in their area.
