An RTI query revealed that the state government spent nearly Rs. 2.4 crore on renovating Raj Bhavan and hiring chartered planes for the travel of Governor Vajubhai Vala in 2014-2015. According to a Times of India report, the public works department in its reply to a RTI query had said that it sanctioned Rs. 3 crore through an order in January, of which Rs. 2.3 crore was spent. The expenditure on his chartered flights and helicopters from September 1, 2014 to May 13, 2015 has been around 10 lakh. About Rs 50 lakh was spent on renovating the kitchen, dining hall and bathroom of the governor's residence along with Rs 30 lakh for the repair of his personal secretary’s office and main lounge, added the report. Another report said Rs 15 lakh was spent on a high-tech OLED television set for his residence.
