A 21-year-old woman was stabbed to death by her stalker at her residence in Polavaram mandal of West Godavari district in Andhra in the early hours of Wednesday.
The accused Alla Kiran (24) later killed himself.
According to police, the victim was identified as Dondepudi Lahari, who hailed from Jangareddygudem , and had been in a relationship with Alla Kiran earlier but had broken up with him six months ago. She was engaged to marry a man named Suresh from Polavaram.
Lahari’s wedding with Suresh was scheduled to take place on Thursday at her fiancé’s residence in Polavaram.
Speaking to TNM, Sree Hari, Polavaram Sub Inspector said, "In the early hours of today, when Alla Kiran found out that Lahari is getting married to another man barged into her fiancé’s house and stabbed her to death. He also injured Suresh and his brother Sathish, who had tried to stop him."
Alla Kiran fled the scene and later killed himself at a farm nearby.
Lahari had been allegedly harassed by Alla Kiran after she broke up with him. She even went on to give a verbal complaint about the harassment by Alla Kiran to the Jangareddygudem police but had failed to give a formal complaint. At the time, the police had counselled Alla Kiran and had made him write a statement that he would not harass her further.
The Polavaram police has registered a case under sections of IPC 302 (murder) and 307 (attempt to murder) and SC/ST PoA Act.
The case is being investigated by Polavaram DySP Ravi Kumar.
