On the eve of Rakshabandhan, on Monday, a two-year-old child in Vishnu Nagar area of Saidabad in Hyderabad was knocked down by a speeding car.  

At around 8:30am, the girl Chaitra, was playing in front of her parents’ provision shop when she was hit by a speeding car. The driver sped away after the incident. 

Chaitra is the younger daughter of provision shop owner A Raju, who has filed a complaint with the police and a case has been registered, DC reported.

DC report also quoted the toddler's grandmother who witnessed the tragic incident as saying, "We could not see the driver. I was there and could not do anything".

A case of causing death by negligence under IPC304(a) has been registered at Saidabad police station. 

Though the girl was rushed to hospital immediately, she was declared brought dead.  

The body was taken to Osmania Hospital for post-mortem. 

Police have launched a manhunt to nab the accused car driver, TOI reported.

They are trying to trace the details of the car and driver by looking at CCTV footage in the area, according to local media.

Earlier, in the first week of July, a 10-year-old girl Ramya, succumbed due to drunk driving.  

The girl's grandfather, Madhusudanachary, who was also injured in the accident, died later in hospital. 

Examination of CCTV footage showed that the accused had consumed alcohol at a pub in Hyderabad, before the incident occurred.
