If you are not much into the smart watches and prefer to wear the traditional watches, Sony might have a solution. It has brought in smart watch straps that can practically convert your watch into a smartwatch. They are called the Sony Wena straps. The strap can be worn on the wrist in combination with the regular watch you are wearing and all those actions you performed with the smartwatch can be done.
Sony has two options on these straps, one is the Wena Wrist Active and the other the Wena Wrist Pro. As you would have imagined, the Wena Wrist Pro is the higher end device while the Wena Wrist Active will be preferred by people looking for a fitness tracker type smartwatch.
It is only in the UK market that Sony plans to immediately make these straps available. There is no clarity on the schedule for the launch of the straps in the other markets, including the US.
Taking a closer look at the premium metal strap, you can attach the Sony Wena Wrist Pro to most classic wrist watches, a Rolex or any other. The strap can be chosen from out of silver or black colour options. It is water-resistant and can function normally even under water 50 metres deep.
The Wena Wrist straps can be used for making contactless payments. But there is no provision yet for Apple Pay or Google Pay. Wirecard’s Boon app is the one used for the contactless payment function on the Wena Wrist for both the Active and Pro versions.
The other model, the Wena Wrist Active, is made of silicone material that has the GPS and the heart rate monitor in it. It will take on the relevant app from your device whether it is an iOS product or Android. The rear side here is used for display.
However, these Sony straps come at a hefty price and can cost anywhere above $400.
