A forensic report on Thursday has revealed that 69-year-old nun Sister Amala, who had been murdered on September 17, 2015 was also raped.

Based on the report, police have charged a case of rape also against Satheesh Babu, the murder accused who has been in custody since October 2015.

A postmortem had earlier indicated that Sister Amala who worked with the Lisieux convent in Pala, had been hit with a strong object on her head, which led to her death.

Sources from the investigative team told The News Minute that Babu was a psychopath and most probably, he was a necrophile.

“It is assumed that he raped the nun after the murder and not before, but it can be confirmed only after getting some more reports,” an officer who sought anonymity told TNM.

Police have submitted the forensic report at the Kottayam district court.

Satheesh was also an accused in the murder of Sister Jose Maria (81) who was found dead on April 17, 2015 in her convent room. The convent authorities had believed that the death of Sr Maria was due to natural causes. The body was buried without informing the police. Later, when Babu was arrested, he confessed to the police that he had killed her as well.

Following the confession, police exhumed the body of Sister Jose Mariya and conducted a postmortemon Friday afternoon.

Sister Jose Mariya’s postmortem has revealed that her death was also a murder, but further details have not yet been received by the enquiry team.
