Mammootty’s Yatra, the Tollywood biopic on the late chief minister of Andhra Pradesh YS Rajashekar Reddy, will start rolling from Wednesday. Directed by Mahi Raghav, Yatra will feature the Malayalam mega star as the legendary chief minister who lost his life tragically in an air crash. Upbeat about the project, the star has allotted a 40-day call sheet for it, say sources. The film is being bankrolled jointly by Vijay Chilla and Shashi Devireddy under the banner 70 MM Entertainments.

While it is confirmed that Mammootty will be playing the central character, there is still no clarity on the actors who will be playing the other key roles in the film. The latest news has it that Suhasini has been approached to play Sabita Indra Reddy, the former home minister of the then Andhra Pradesh, who YS Rajasekhar Reddy considered his sister. The director is keeping his cards close to his chest and is expected to reveal the details soon. Reports say that the team is planning to complete the shooting in a couple of months and ensure that the film hits the theatres in January next year.

Tollywood currently seems to be under the biopic influence with a number of films being made in the genre. N Balakrishna is making a biopic on his late father and former CM of Andhra Pradesh, NT Rama Rao. This project is being helmed by J Krish with Balayya, Vishnu Induri and Sai Korrapati producing it jointly. Another big ticket biopic in the making happens to be the Chiranjeevi starrer Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy which went on the floors last year and is progressing steadily. The project is being funded by Chiru’s son and actor Ram Charan Teja under the banner Konidela Production Company.

With several biopics featuring top stars in the making and gearing up for release around the same time, fans are in for a big treat at the theatres.
