The makers of the Telugu movie Valmiki have announced that the shooting of the film has begun. The production house posted on its Twitter handle: “#Valmiki shoot begins!! @IAmVarunTej @harish2you.” Varun Tej, on his first day of shoot wrote, “Day 1 of shoot for #Valmiki. Super kicked about this one!”

Valmiki is the remake of the hit Tamil movie Jigarthanda that was written and directed by Karthik Subburaj. The film has Varun Tej reprising the role done by Bobby Simha in Tamil. We also hear that Atharvaa Murali will be foraying into the Telugu film industry with this remake and he will be seen in the role done by Siddharth in the original. Harish Shankar will be wielding the megaphone for this remake and Devi Sri Prasad has been roped in to compose the tunes. Valmiki will be bankrolled by Ram Achanta and Gopi Achanta under their banner.

Valmiki was launched with a pooja on January 27 at the Rama Naidu Studios amidst a lot of fanfare. Noted celebs in the Telugu film industry had graced the occasion. While director Sukumar performed the pooja, it was director VV Vinayak who had directed the first shot. Ram Bobba switched on the camera and Varun Tej’s sister Niharika gave the first clap.

It may be noted here that the original version in Tamil was written and directed by Karthik Subburaj and had Siddharth, Bobby Simha and Lakshmi Menon in the lead roles with Nassar, Ambika, Karunakaran and Sangili Murugan playing the supporting roles. The film fetched the National Film Awards for Best Supporting Actor for Bobby Simha and Best Editing for Vivek Harshan.

The technical crew of Jigarthanda included Santosh Narayanan for music, Gavemic U Ary for cinematography and Vivek Harshan for editing. The film was bankrolled by Kathiresan under his banner SMS Pictures.
