Kannada film KGF: Chapter 1 is easily the most successful film at the box office recently. Released in four other languages apart from Kannada, this Yash starrer has broken quite a few box office records. It collected Rs 50 crore in its first three days at the box office and reached Rs 100 crore in a week. KGF: Chapter 1 is now fast inching towards the Rs 150 crore mark, according to trade reports. It also has the distinction of becoming the first Kannada film to cross the $ half million (all languages) in the US.

According to sources in the know, the makers of this magnum opus are now gearing up for the sequel. Titled KGF: Chapter 2, the film’s shooting will begin in summer this year with its release planned for later this year or early next year.

KGF: Chapter 1, which hit the silver screens on December 21, turned out to be a big hit. The film was released in five languages – Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi. It is directed by Prashanth Neel, who has also written the story, screenplay and dialogues. Vijay Kiragandur bankrolled the project under his banner Hombale Films. The film has Yash playing the lead role and paired up opposite him is Srinidhi Shetty.

The technical team comprised music director Ravi Basrur, cinematographer Bhuvan Gowda and art director Shivakumar. The rest of the star cast includes Achyuth Kumar, Nassar, Malavika Avinash, Anant Nag and Vasishta N Simha. The film is narrated by Anant Nag.

The mega budget movie is being distributed by some of the most high-profile distributors in the film industry. In Tamil, the distribution rights were lapped up by Vishal’s Vishal Film Factory and the Malayalam version is distributed by Global United Media. The Hindi version is distributed by Farhan Akthar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment jointly with Anil Thadani’s AA Films.

The same technical crew will be retained for the sequel as well. It may be noted here that the team had already shot about 15% of the sequel while making the first part and will be filming the remaining during the summer schedule this year.
