The shooting of the Manju Warrier starrer Kayattam has been wrapped up completely and the post production work has begun. The film’s director Sanal Kumar Sasidharan confirmed this through his Facebook page and also added a picture of his entire team.

Manju Warrier, who plays the lead in the film, is also co-producing the film along with Shaji Mathew and Aruna Mathew.

Kayattam is a film about mountaineering. Sanal has scripted the film and is also in charge of the editing and the sound designing. The technical crew comprises Chandru Selvaraj for camerawork and Ratheesh Eettillam for editing.

Controversy

Meanwhile, Sanal got involved in a controversy concerning the selection of his award-winning film Chola for the 24th International Film Festival of Kerala. It was selected for the IFFK under the Kaleidoscope section but the director declared on a Facebook post that he was withdrawing the film from the festival.

In a detailed explanation on his Facebook page, Sanal wrote that he took the decision in protest against the ‘biased and unprofessional selection process’. His post reads, “Chola has been invited to the Kaleidoscope section in the 24th IFFK. I am much humbled by the invitation but I have sent a mail stating that I am withdrawing the film from the festival, protesting against its overtly biased and unprofessional way of selection process in the Malayalam cinema today section. I believe that, it would be huge irresponsibility from my part to participate in the festival which is openly biased and outdated in its selection process. Chola - movie will be released soon in theatres! I support the #Reform_The_IFFK movement, a movement initiated by my fellow filmmakers in Indie cinema sector, though I am not part of that movement for personal reasons.”

Sanal had withdrawn his film S Durga from the IFFK in 2017 when it was selected under the Malayalam Cinema Today category. He also began a parallel film festival that year called the Kazhcha Indie Film Festival.
