The idea behind the new initiative by the defeated party is to have presence internally and externally in terms of the parliament and the general public. The shadow account called Min of Health Shadow has the description, "This is the Shadow Handle of @MoHFW_INDIA | This is an initiative to keep the government accountable based on constructive criticism. Your Voice | Our Pledge." All the other accounts have similar description. The accounts mainly tweet news stories that question policies and decisions of the current government."We are here to be a responsible Opposition and keep Government accountable for Sports and Youth Affairs," was the first tweet by the Sports Ministry's shadow account.A report by the Indian Express says Congress has formed seven committees or shadow groups to track ministries. All panels are headed by former ministers and their job is to provide constructive criticism and keep the Government in power accountable for all their initiatives. The initiative is also to provide a platform for individuals outside the government circle to voice their opinions. Currently there are seven shadow twitter handles which include the Ministry of Urban Development, Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Law and Justice, Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, Ministry of Power, Ministry of Railways, Ministry of Human Resources Development and Ministry of Science and Technology. Veerappa Moily who is heading the commerce, finance, external affairs and Information and Broadcasting panel with the assistance of former commerce minister Anand Sharma and Jyotiraditya Scindia told The News Minute that the first meeting of the committee took place on Thursday. "The intention is to decide on the issues we will take up in Parliament against the government. All of us have been assigned certain ministries and we are looking at decisions made by the particular ministries."Moily however had no clue about the Twitter accounts. The other committees are being lead by A K Anthony who has been assigned to the Ministry of Defence, Law and Justice, former food minister KV Thomas has been assigned to head the panel on rural development, environment and forests and Ghulam Nabi Azad who is the leader of the opposition in the Rajya Sabha will be heading the panel which handles Health and Family Welfare and Women and Child Development. Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh will be heading the group handling agriculture and drinking water and sanitation and Mani Shankar Aiyar has been assigned to HRD.
