Seven days into 2017 and 7 cases of molestation reported from Bengaluru
It has only been a week since the New Year began and already seven cases of molestation have been filed across various police stations in Bengaluru.
On New Year’s Day, Bengaluru woke up to appalling news reports of women being molested on New Year’s Eve on MG Road and Brigade Road.
Case after case
Headlines like ‘mass molestation’ and ‘Bengaluru Shame’ started trending on January 2 after Bangalore Mirror first published pictures of women who had been allegedly molested at MG Road and Brigade Road.,
Shortly after this, disturbing CCTV footage of a girl being molested on an isolated road in Kammanahalli surfaced in the media.
The police, who were already facing flak for not being able to protect women, quickly filed a suo motu case at the Banaswadi Police Station.
TV channels, newspapers and websites were reporting every update in the case until four men were arrested.
Police revealed that a gang of six men had been stalking the girl for a few days before they planned to attack her.
The police are still looking for the sixth suspect in the Kammanahalli molestation case.
Meanwhile, four suo moto cases were filed at the Indiranagar, Ashok Nagar and Cubbon Park (two cases) police stations based on media reports that women were molested on New Year’s Eve.
Another case of molestation was registered at the Banaswadi Police Station on January 4.
Banaswadi Police Inspector said that a 27-year-old girl was walking to the gym after work on NH 44 service road, when she was attacked by two men on a bike.
The pillion rider tried to pull her T-shirt. The girl fought off the men and ran home. An FIR has been registered under section 354, the police said.
A day later, another girl was sexually abused by a man in HRBR Layout.
The man stalked her, grabbed and forcefully kissed her. He also injured her tongue by biting it.
