Jayasurya will be donning the role ‘Joy Thakkolkaran’ after a gap of four years.

The sequel to the hit flick Punyalan Agarbattis is currently being made under the title Punyalan Private Limited.

The shooting of the film is almost done and it has gone into the post-production mode.

Speaking about the film, its director Ranjith Sankar told the Deccan Chronicle, “Only recently we gave some serious thought to a sequel. And felt like rather than going for another movie, the same premise would fit for telling a socially relevant topic. The immediacy occurred because of the relevance of the topic. The theme being a social satire, if told after many more years, will lose importance. Responsibility doubles since we have to do justice to people’s expectations to present the new film as good as or better than the previous part.”

Punyalan Agarbattis turned out to be a smash hit which prompted director Ranjith Sankar and actor Jayasurya to team up again for the sequel. Incidentally, they had produced the film under the banner Dreams N Beyond.

The sequel, which has Jayasurya essay the famous Joy Thakkolkaran role, also has Aju Varghese, Dharmajan, Vijayaraghavan, Guinness Pakru and Sreejith Ravi in the star cast. Anand Madhusoodanan has composed music for this flick with Vishnu Narayanan and V Saajan in charge of the cinematography and editing respectively.

On deciding to make a sequel after four long years, the director was quoted as saying earlier, “I must have thought about over 10,000 stories for the sequel. Political satire needs to have a strong subject. Then, the common trend where sequels rarely turn better than first part too was a hindrance. But, when I landed this story, I realized it is time to announce the project.”

The film is slated to hit the silver screens in November.
