The biopic on the legendary actor Savitri, titled Mahanati, hit the silver screens early this month, and has been doing well at the theatres.

Even top actors and filmmakers such as SS Rajamouli and Mohanlal have been raving about it. The latest to join the list is Rakul Preet Singh.

She posted on her Twitter page about Mahanati and congratulated the team. Her post read: “Finally saw #Mahanati n it’s a “MASTERPIECE”.. kudos 2 d entire team 4 making a film like this. Savitri garu will be remembered forever! #KeerthySuresh what a lovely performance ! Take a bow ..#Samantha #VijayDevarkonda.”

However, the omission of Dulquer Salmaan's name has made the actor's self-professed fans outrage against her.

This is not for the first time that the fans of male stars have targeted someone for a perceived 'insult'. In the past, fans of Mohanlal, Mammootty, Vijay, Ajith, Pawan Kalyan and others, have indulged in trolling, abuse, and even death and rape threats.

Dulquer Salmaan, one of the most talented and accomplished actors in south India, made his debut in Tollywood with Mahanati. He played Savitri’s husband and actor Gemini Ganesan in the biopic. The star’s acting has also received positive reviews.

Mahanati, directed by Nag Ashwin, stars Keerthy Suresh as Savitri while Dulquer had played her colleague and husband Gemini Ganesan. The star cast also included Vijay Devarakonda and Samantha Akkineni in pivotal roles with a bevy of actors and filmmakers making cameo appearances. They include Akkineni Naga Chaitanya, Mohan Babu, Prakash Raj, Naresh, Krish, Srinivas Avasarala, Sandeep Vanga, Tharun Bhascker Dhaassyam and Sai Madhav Burra.

Mickey J. Meyer had composed music for this venture while Dani Sanchez-Lopez wielded the megaphone and Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao edited it. The Telugu version, Mahanati was released on May 9th and the Tamil version, Nadigayar Thilagam was out a couple of days later on May 11th.
