Superstar Rajinikanth is basking in glory over his latest film release 2.0 turning out to be a major box office success. Directed by S Shankar, the film was bankrolled by A Subashkaran under his banner Lyca Productions, on a budget exceeding Rs 500 crores. And that made it the costliest film to be ever made in India till date.
With 2.0 finally hitting the marquee after a long delay, Rajini’s fans are now gearing up for the release of his next film Petta. This Karthik Subburaj directorial has been scheduled as a Pongal release next year.
After the release of Petta, Rajinikanth will be moving over to a new project that will be helmed by AR Murugadoss, say sources. With a strong possibility that this venture will be bankrolled by Lyca Productions, we hear that the director is busy assembling his crew.
Reports are that Santosh Sivan, who had worked with AR Murugadoss in Thuppaki and Spyder may be cranking the camera for the Rajini starrer. It may be noted here that Santosh Sivan had cranked the camera for the Rajinikanth starrer Thalapathi way back in 1991 and did not get an opportunity to work with the Superstar since then.
It’ll be an interesting combination to watch out for as the two will be joining hands for the first time. It is also rumored this project could very well be Superstar's last film before he hangs up his boots to concentrate on his political career.
Petta has Vijay Sethupathi playing an important role and this is the first time he is sharing the screen space with Rajinikanth. In the star cast of this film are Simran, Trisha, Malavika Mohanan, Megha Akash, Bobby Simha and Nawazuddin Siddiqui as well playing important roles.
Anirudh Ravichander is composing the tunes for this gangster action flick with Tirru cranking the camera and Vivek Harshan being in charge of the editing.
The rest of the technical crew include Peter Hein from stunt choreography, Suresh Selvarajan for production designing, Kunal Rajan as sound designer, Niharika Khan and Praveen Raja as costume designers, and Baba Bhaskar and Sheriff for dance choreography.
