Santhanam's upcoming film A1: Accused No. 1, starring Santhanam in the lead, has been embroiled in controversy with the Hindu Tamizhar Katchi (HTK) filing a complaint that the film hurts the sentiments of the Brahmin communityi.

The teaser that was released recently has a brahmin woman eating an omlette to prove her love for the hero and this apparently did not go too well with the HTK members who have now filed a complaint with the Chennai Police Commissioner stating that such scenes would create an enimity between caste groups.

Speaking about the controversy, producer Raj Narayanan had said in an interview to the Deccan Chronicle, “It’s a love story of a local boy Saravanan played by Santhanam and a Brahmin girl (Tara) and the first half is a romantic comedy with a dark second half. These dialogues are passing references and when you watch the film, you will know there are no such visual scenes. And, the Censor Board has given a clean chit in a ‘U’ certificate for the film. Moreover, I haven’t received any notification from the police (sic).”

A1 is directed by Johnson K and produced by S Raj Narayanan under the banner CircleBox Entertainment. Tara Alisha Berry plays the female lead in this flick with Motta Rajendran, Manohar, Swaminathan and Saikumar forming the supporting cast. Santhosh Narayanan is composing the tunes for this film with Gopi Jagadeeswaran cranking the camera and Leo John Paul editing it. The film is releasing on July 26.

Santhanam’s last release was Dhilluku Dhuddu 2 earlier this year. He currently has Dagaalty in the making. Also, three of his films Oodi Oodi Uzhaikanum, Mannavan Vanthanadi and Server Sundaram, which are in the cans for a long time, is yet to hit the marquee for various reasons.
