Samsung’s new AI based digital personal assistant Bixby has been one of the most awaited feature on the new Samsung Galaxy S8. However, even when the S8 was launched, the company said that Bixby was still work in progress and the phones were being released without its full functionality. There were reports then of how Bixby could give Apple’s SIRI some serious competition.

Well now news has broken that Samsung has indeed released the Bixby for its South Korean customers. The limitation in this release is that Bixby can only understand and respond to commands in the Korean language.

Much to the relief and delight of Samsung, the pre-order numbers itself exceeded 1million. There have been the odd issues as well, like the red tint appearing on the screens and rebooting of the phones in a random manner. The company has already issued the explanation for the red tinting and promised a patch to rectify the problem. The rebooting problem may also not prove to be a serious one.

The release of Bixby in the US market must be the next big aim for Samsung since the phone’s users’ expectations are high, following the provision of a dedicated button to access Bixby on the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus phones.

At the launch itself this was explained that the voice commands feature has not been activated since there were language related issues and the Company did not want to wait for the launch of the phones on this issue. It now transpires the problem is yet to be fully resolved as one the Korean language can be understood by Bixby as yet. But reports do suggest that the full functionality of Bixby in the US market is not far off.

Some limited features like Bixby Home, Bixby Vision and the Reminders features have been already enabled on the phone. More than that there are also other new features like image recognition in Bixby which the users wish to experience, once Bixby is enabled on their smartphones. The exact date is however not indicated.
