Ever since it was announced that Samantha has been roped in for the biopic on legendary actress Savitri, there were speculations that she would be playing the legendary actress herself.
However, sources close to the team have confirmed that Keerthy Suresh will be seen as Savitiri.
Interestingly, Samantha will be seen as a journalist in the film.
Sources say that the entire film would be narrated from this journo’s perspective, which makes the character an essential one. Samantha understands the huge responsibility of playing the role and is also well aware that the women journalists back then were different. She is trying to get into the skin of the character, adds the source.
Samantha had been keen on performance-oriented roles and this could be her ticket to it.
Directed by Nag Ashwin, the biopic has been tiled Mahanati.
The first look of the movie, featuring Samantha and Keerthy Suresh was aptly released on the International Women’s Day, March 8.
Produced by Vyjayanthi Films, Mahanati will have music scored by Mickey J Meyer.
The biopic will mainly concentrate on Savitri's glorious times.
Savitri, a legend in her own times, acted in Tamil and Telugu movies mainly but has also donned the greasepaint for some Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi movies.
During her illustrious career, Savitiri has been honoured with a number of awards including the Rashtrapati Award, Nandi Award by the Andhra government and the Kalaimamani by the Tamil Nadu government.
She was not only an actress but also a producer, director and playback singer.
