‘Salt N Pepper’ sequel ‘Black Coffee’ to be directed by Baburaj

The sequel to the hit Malayalam movie Salt N Pepper is on cards! Interestingly, Baburaj, who played a role in the film, will be directing the sequel titled Black Coffee. Aashiq Abu, the director of Salt N Pepper, has been roped in to play a role in the sequel. Shweta Menon and Mythili, the female leads in the prequel, have found a berth in the sequel as well. According to reports, Black Coffee will revolve around the hero Baburaj, who shifts to an apartment where four women live. What ensues forms the crux of the story. Salt N' Pepper is a 2011 romantic comedy that was directed by Aashiq Abu. The film was produced by Sadanandan Rangorath under the banner Lucsam Creations. It starred Lal, Shweta Menon, Mythili  and Asif Ali in the lead roles with Baburaj, Kalpana, Vijayaraghavan, Ahmed Sidhique, Kelu Mooppan, Ambika Mohan, Archana Kavi, Dileesh Pothan, and Nandhu in supporting roles. Baburaj played Lal’s cook in the film.

Lal – an archeologist and a food lover – falls in love with a dubbing artiste (Shweta), an equally huge food enthusiast, over phone calls. But both are not young anymore and feel insecure to meet each other, using their younger friend (Mythili) and relative (Asif) to play them for a meeting.  

Made on a budget of Rs 2.9 crore, the film went on to collect Rs 3.5 crore, thereby making it a success at the box office.

Salt N' Pepper's Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi remake rights were bought by actor-director Prakash Raj and were remade in Tamil as Un Samayal Arayil, in Telugu as Ulavacharu Biriyani and in Kannada as Oggarane. Prakash Raj had directed all the three remakes and played the lead role. Sneha appeared in Shweta Menon's character.
