The trailer of Ajith’s upcoming film, Viswasam, was released on Sunday. The film is his fourth collaboration with filmmaker Siva. Starring Ajith and Nayanthara in the lead, the film’s music has been composed by D Imman. The film is set to release for Pongal 2019.

The trailer shows Ajith playing the role of Thookudurai, a local don from Theni. Clad in a white veshti and shirt, he is seen being greeted by the folks in town, suggesting he may also be a respected local leader. With the Madurai-accented Tamil and the moustache twirling, the makers seem to have made it clear that the film is directed towards what the industry calls ‘B and C centres’.

The trailer also plenty of farmer sentiment, family feud and violence. Nayanthara, the female lead, makes a fleeting appearance as a rural belle romanced by Ajith, with some help from Yogi Babu. The stylish Sampath is seen playing the villain in this much-anticipated film.

The film, that has been certified ‘U’, will be released in countries like Russia and Ukraine. Seventh Sense Cinema, which had released Rajinikanth’s 2.0 recently in Russia, will be overseeing the release of Viswasam in these two countries where the film is scheduled to release in more than eight cities.

Adchithooku, the first single from this film garnered a great response from fans. The makers recently released the lyric videos of Kannaana Kanney, a melody rendered by Sid Sriram from the album. The song’s instrumental version, featuring the slide guitar, has been performed by Grammy-winner Prakash Sontakke.

Ajith was last seen playing an Interpol agent in Vivegam, also directed by Siva. He will be seen on screen with Nayanthara after 10 years. They were last seen together in Aegan, which was released in 2008.

Bankrolled by Sathya Jyothi Films, the film also stars Vivek, Robo Shankar, Thambi Ramaiah, Kovai Sarala, Sandhya Janak, Kalairani, Bose Venkat, Sujatha Sivakumar, Ramesh Thilak, Jangiri Madhumitha and Namo Narayana. Rajinikanth’s Petta, that was previously slated to clash with Viswasam at the box office, opted out of the race when the makers announced that the film would be released just ahead of Pongal on January 10.
