The News Minute | October 24, 2014 | 9.15 am ISTKicking up another controversy an article published by the Kerala RSS unit's magazine Kesari has made the Congress say that the organization is trying to distort history. In an article that appeared in the RSS mouth piece ‘Kesari’ on October 17, it has been suggested that Nathuram Vinayak Godse should have killed Jawahar Lal Nehru and not Mahatma Gandhi. The article by B Gopalakrishnan, who was the BJP candidate in Chalakudy Lok Sabha constituency, says that Nehru pursued his selfish politics during the time of partition.“Nehru’s selfish politics was behind national tragedies like partition and Gandhi murder. After evaluating Nathuram Godse’s arguments in the light of historical documents related to partition, if history students feel Godse aimed the wrong target, they cannot be blamed. Nehru was solely responsible for the partition of the country,” the article says.According to the author, Godse was a better person than Nehru because he says that Nehru killed Gandhi psychologically. He further adds in his article that during the end of the partition process Nehru had effectively expelled Gandhiji from last round talks with the British. Nehru just wanted Gandhiji’s Khadar and his cap as a symbol for the party. Nehru sidelined him and tried to prove that Gandhi had no influence in the Congress, says the article.“Godse pulled the trigger on Gandhiji’s chest after a respectful bow. It was unlike Nehru who stabbed Gandhiji from behind and greeted him from front,” Gopalakrishnan argues.Congress leaders have strongly opposed the article. Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala has directed state police to inspect if action can be taken against the magazine.Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee President VM Sudheeran criticized the RSS and BJP and said in a statement that the article distorts facts and history. “After the Modi Government came to power, consistent attempts are being made to glorify hardcore Hindutva ideologues and Gandhiji’s killer Nathuram Godse. It also displays the intolerance of Modi towards Nehru and his family,’’ Sudheeran told the media. However, Prime Minister Modi had decided to constitute an organizing committee for the 125 birth anniversary celebration of Jawahar Lal Nehru and reports say that the RSS had expressed its dislike through this article.
