Rs 50,000 stolen from Bengaluru man in 15 minutes, police haven’t even filed an FIR

A Bengaluru resident has reported that Rs 50,000 was stolen from his bank account within a duration of about 15 minutes, but the city police haven’t yet registered an FIR.

Mahesh Kumar told The News Minute that between 1.15 pm and 1.28 pm on Sunday, he got alerts that money was withdrawn from his Axis Bank account. However, by the time he could get to the nearest ATM, the money was gone.

He said that he had his ATM card with him in JP Nagar, where he lives, but the alerts showed that two withdrawals of Rs 20,000 and one of Rs 10,000 had been made from the Lingarajpuram area of the city.

He managed to get his card blocked by 2.30 pm, but around midnight, an attempt was made to withdraw money again.

Mahesh then approached the JP Nagar police station to lodge a complaint. However, the police haven’t filed an FIR, but only given him an acknowledgement for a non-cognizable offence.

Asked about this, Inspector Sanjeev Kumar told The News Minute that he was not present at the station on Sunday as he was on duty to arrange security for the Chief Minister. “Ask him to come to the police station, we will file an FIR,” Kumar said.
