The film stars Nivin Pauly in the title role with Mohanlal playing an extended cameo.

Composing music for this flick is Gopi Sunder with Binod Pradhan wielding the camera and A Sreekar Prasad being the editor. The shooting of this film began in Mangalore, and has been shot in Manjeshwar, and Udupi. Playing a highwayman in the film, Nivin Pauly underwent special training in Kalaripayattu under the guidance of trained experts, say sources.

Kayamkulam Kochunni is a film about the real-life legend by the same name, a Robin Hood styled highwayman who lived in the early 19th century Kerala.

Director Roshan Andrews is one of the prolific directors in the Malayalam film industry. He has directed blockbusters such as Udayananu Tharam, Notebook and Evidam Swargamanu in the past.
